In this update, we want to do more than share moments from our own lives—we want to invite you into the stories of the people we walk alongside each day, both in our community and at the hospital. These are the stories that shape us, challenge us, and remind us why this work matters.

A few months ago, Dorcas was out in the field tending to her cows when she felt the first contractions. With no time to waste, she climbed onto the back of a motorbike—the only transport available in her rural village—and began the hour-long bumpy ride to the nearest health facility.

Halfway there, she had to ask the driver to stop. She was delivering.

On the side of the road, at just 25 weeks pregnant, Dorcas gave birth to her first baby. But her labor wasn’t over. When she arrived at her local clinic, she delivered three more extremely premature babies.

Only one would survive.

Over the next 80 days, Jack cared for baby Bravin in our newborn unit, while Dorcas followed every instruction with quiet determination—doing everything she could to help her son survive, even when so much felt outside her control.

With no support from her husband, and struggling to provide for her three-year-old twins back home, she carried more than any mother should have to.

This is the story of Bravin—the tiniest baby ever discharged from our newborn unit—and the extraordinary strength of the mother who never gave up on him.
