Subscriber First Name, after a really special time in California and Florida, we’re glad to be back home in Kenya.

I think I’ve unlocked a new level of parenting after surviving a 13-hour flight with three kids under five. With minimal meltdowns (from them as well as me), we all handled it as well as you could hope—but it was still exhausting.

Needless to say, we were more than ready to get home and settle back into our own space. This time, the transition felt remarkably smoother. We arrived to a furnished home, knew exactly where to pick up groceries on the way, and instead of feeling foreign, the journey felt familiar. What a relief to be past the steepest part of the learning curve of figuring out life here!

More than that, we returned with fresh eyes to see the beauty of our life in Kapsowar. The first thing that struck me was the richness of our day-to-day community. I loved watching the kids run outside that first morning to play with friends, greeting neighbors who knocked on our door to welcome us back, and shaking hands all over town and the hospital with people eager to meet Judah. I’ve been soaking in the joy of how many relationships we’ve grown, and what a gift it is to do life here.

Nevertheless, returning to another country is a transition, especially with a brand-new member in our family. Jack and I are adjusting our daily rhythms, figuring out what we can manage while embracing the joyful, demanding work that comes with an infant. I’m also learning to embrace the reality that, for now, my days will be a little more home-centered—and that’s okay.

Back to Work

Jack received a warm welcome back at the hospital, jumping right into the intense rhythm of work. His first week back was marked by both heartbreak and hope—three critically ill babies came under his care immediately, and while two didn’t make it, one five-week-old, who seemed to have no chance, miraculously pulled through. The highs and lows of this work never stop.

Meanwhile, when I find the time, I’ve been diving into conversations about launching a 501(c)(3) for the hospital—exploring how we can bring in new funding and strengthen relationships with the few donors already giving. It’s a big undertaking, but every step forward feels like progress.

Beyond that, I’m staying busy with a mix of projects on our living station, from welcoming visitors to helping furnish a new building that’s going up. There’s always something happening!
