Subscriber First Name, we have FOUR days to go before we leave for Kenya which feels absolutely wild.It’s hard to describe exactly how I’m (Regan) feeling about it all. But for those of you who have kids - the closest example I can come up with is that it feels like the days leading up to the birth of your first baby. It’s something you’ve dreamed of for years and you’ve anticipated what’s coming for months. You’ve had classes, conversations, and read books on what to expect. But no matter how much you prepare - you know this is an experience that can only be taught by immersion. You’ve done your best to prepare by buying all the things you think you need - knowing many of them you will use, but also knowing you will forget things you don’t even know you need yet. You wrestle with insomnia thinking about it all at 2am at night (unfortunately true for me with both pregnancy and packing, ha!) You know it’s a huge change that affects everyone in different ways. There will be a loss of sleep, a loss of knowing how to navigate the life you once lived. There will be a huge adjustment on a “new normal”. It sounds so hard. So why do it at all?!
Quite simply: you have kids, and you follow Jesus - for the joy set before you. There’s nothing quite so beautiful as seeing this new life that was just an idea in your mind here, in your arms, taking his first breath in this world. And in a similar way, we also can’t wait to see our a long held vision of walking alongside the vulnerable come to life in ways that feel too beautiful to wrap our minds around. I heard one mom say - being a mom is the best thing you’ll ever do, and the hardest thing you’ll ever do. I think moving our family to Kenya feels the same way. So on May 9, we’ve got a scheduled induction (😉) as we step on our flight. And just like when labor begins, you buckle up for the ride and know there’s no turning back! It will be hard, but it will be worth it.
